All of us who have spent most of our lives in Miami are well familiarized with Viscaya, this 1910 beautiful mansion, which has become one of South Florida's most recognized historic landmarks. Well, let me tell you of this other not so well- known"Viscaya" I learned of out of coincidence. One sunday morning ,while driving to my in-laws house, my husband decided to detour just for the heck of it. Surprisingly, we found this place called "The Deering Estate". A beautiful property that once belonged to Charles Deering, an industrialist who began purchasing the town of cutler in 1916, to then build a stone house in 1922 in which he died 5 years later. This amazing property now belongs to the State of Florida and it's being manage by the Miami-Dade parks and recreation department. If you wish to visit their hours of operation are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and there is a cost of $10.00 per adult, although there is also this amazing pier right next to the house (free) in case you ever find the need to take some time alone, to contemplate nature or to get in touch with your senses.
The Deering Estate is located at: 16701 SW 72nd Avenue. Miami, FL 33157.
